Ayrton Senna
There is no driver comparable to Ayrton Senna. His talent was clear when he took his backmarker Toleman to P2 in Monte Carlo as a rookie. His debut season was such that Lotus were prepared to jump hoops and ruffle feathers to sign him for '85. Senna took a win in just his second race in the black and gold car.
A successful three years at Lotus didn't wield any World Championships, which prompted a move to McLaren for 1988. The MP4/4 for the 1988 season was sensational and Senna beat his teammate, Alain Prost, by just three points to secure his first World Championship at the first time of asking with McLaren. The Brazilian legend would take the titles in spectacular fashion in 1990 & 1991, to make him a three-time World Champion.
Three World Championships with McLaren makes him a very important figure for the whole McLaren team. Senna was famous for his incredible skills around the streets of Monte Carlo.
The Helmet
Oscar Piastri's helmet for the event was a special tribute to the three-time McLaren World Champion who tragically passed away in an accident 30 years ago.
The helmet itself follows the normal design patterns of Piastri's helmet - but the colour pallet has vastly changed. Senna's colours are so notorious that despite not following the right pattern, this helmet is instantly recognisable as Ayrton Senna's. The deep yellow, combined with the green, and hints of dark blue all represented Brazil to Senna - and they are the staple feature of the helmet.
Oscar Piastri
It appears as if the Senna heritage was coursing through Piastri when he tackled the streets of Monte-Carlo. His 2nd place finish on the Sunday was his best result and first podium of the season. The Aussie has had an incredible start to his F1 career, challenging his more experienced and equally talented teammate at every turn.
