Thirty years on, Ayrton Senna evokes a certain emotion in everyone, such was his greatness. On and off track he was nothing short of legendary. His infamous crash is ingrained in the memories of all, the moment that F1 lost one of the greatest of all time.
Pierre Gasly chooses to honour the legend with this modern rendition of Senna's iconic lid which he will wear during the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend. We are auctioning the helmet in partnership with Gasly and donating 100% of the proceeds to the 'Instituto Ayrton Senna'.
Pierre & The Helmet
Pierre Gasly is an incredibly talented French driver who has worked incredibly hard for his space in F1. Having been a part of the Red Bull F1 family from late 2017 until 2022, the Frenchman made the switch to drive for the French works team - Alpine - from 2023 onwards.
The most incredible point in Gasly's career was the almost unbelievable win at the Italian Grand Prix in 2020. Having overcome incredible adversity, he achieved what all F1 drivers dream of.
Ayrton has had the same colour scheme all the way from Karting, through the junior categories, and his entire F1 career. This tribute helmet of Pierre's features the iconic yellow base, with green and black horizontal stripes that is forever synonymous with Senna's. No one in F1 has ever had such an instantly recognisable helmet paint scheme.
Gasly has received permission from the Senna family to use this iconic design as a very special tribute to the legendary driver, thirty years after the tragic accident.
The helmet still features Gasly's normal design features, as well as his tributes to AH19 & JB17, but now in the scheme of Ayrton Senna. Gasly stated (via Instagram) that Ayrton Senna has been "a huge inspiration since [his] karting days", and that he feels privileged to be able to pay tribute to Senna's legacy in such a way.
The Charity
Instituto Ayrton Senna is a charity dreamt up by the racing driver and his sister, Viviane Senna, to better the lives of young people in their native country of Brazil. Senna had enormous empathy for the terrible poverty in his own country and dreamt of being able to use his platform to make a difference.
In March 1994 Ayrton and Viviane started making plans for the opening of their brand-new charity that would focus on Brazilian education. After the tragic accident, Viviane decided to carry on the plans for their charity and carry Ayrton's name with them forever.
The charity focuses on providing useful education to the young people in Brazil. Its projects pay particular attention to how young people can use what they learn in the classroom and apply that to real-life. This helps young people to become more employable and provides them with better opportunities.
All proceeds from this auction will go to this fantastic institution.
Ayrton Senna
There is no driver comparable to Ayrton Senna. His talent was clear when he took his backmarker Toleman to P2 in Monaco as a rookie. His debut season was such that Lotus were prepared to jump hoops and ruffle feathers to sign him for '85. Senna took a win in just his second race in the black and gold car.
A successful three years at Lotus didn't wield any World Championships, which prompted a move to McLaren for 1988. The MP4/4 for the 1988 season was sensational and Senna beat his teammate, Alain Prost, by just three points to secure his first World Championship at the first time of asking with McLaren. The Brazilian legend would take the titles in spectacular fashion in 1990 & 1991, to make him a three-time World Champion. Searching for his fourth title at Williams in 1994, Senna took pole on the opening two rounds but was forced into retirement on both occasions. The third round was the San Marino GP.
Senna took his third pole of the season at Imola, as he led away on Lap 7, Senna went straight on at Tamburello, a fast left hander, and hit the wall high-speed.
This accident will never be forgotten, and nor will the legend of Ayrton Senna.

The Auto Bid Extend feature ensures that bidders will always have a chance to challenge bids placed in the final seconds of an auction. When indicated on a listing page, if a bid is placed during the last 5 minutes of an auction, the auction will automatically extend for an additional 5 minutes from the time of the latest bid. The auction will close once all bidding activity has stopped for a period of 5 minutes.
NOTE: Current Bid Amount and Countdown Timer are not "live." Click Refresh to update them or to see if the auction has been automatically extended by a last minute bid.
A straight bid is a one-time amount, that represents the price you are committing to bid. The price that is entered as a straight bid can be any amount that is equal to, or greater than the current amount plus the minimum increment.
This amount will become the new current bid amount of the item (i.e. the item is £100. A straight bid is placed at £200. The item price is now £200).
If there is a maximum bid on the item, the greater of the straight bid and maximum bid will be the highest bid amount.
If a straight bid and a maximum bid are placed at the same value, the bid that is placed earlier will become the winning bid.
This system offers a convenient bidding system option, so you don't have to continuously login to re-bid. When you place a maximum bid, you are entering the highest price you are willing to pay for an item. Your maximum bid is kept confidential until it is exceeded by another bidder.
When a maximum bid is placed, the system will place bids on your behalf at the bid increment amount above the current high bid. The system will bid by the increment to ensure you remain the highest bidder or to meet the reserve price (if applicable), up to your maximum bid amount.
If and only if duplicate maximum bids are entered, the customer who entered the maximum bid first will get priority and will be the winning bidder.
If another bidder places a higher bid above your maximum bid, you will be emailed to login and place another bid.
