The experience is usually offered at European tracks.
About the car
The car is derived from the Tyrrell 026 Formula 1 and retains most of its original features except for the monocoque.
The engine is a Ford Cosworth 3 litre V10 producing 750 horsepower and running up to 16,500 rev./min.
The engines are now rebuilt and maintained by European Minardi personnel. The gearbox is a 6 speed semi-automatic, it has carbon brakes.
The tyres used are Pirelli F1 academy specification on 13" rims. The monocoque was designed at European Minardi by ex.
Tyrrell engineers. It is slightly longer than the single seater to accommodate the additional person but uses a smaller fuel tank to minimize the increase in length.
The car's aerodynamics were revamped in 2018 by Mike Gascoyne, previously Tyrrell's chief engineer to use a more modern front and rear wing.
Depending upon the circuit, it is capable of speeds of over 180 miles per hour but most passengers are more amazed at the braking from the carbon brakes.
The car made its first outing in 1999 and by 2001 eight cars had been built.
In 2001 all the cars were on track simultaneously at the Donington circuit for a two-seater "race". Nigel Mansell and Fernando Alonso were amongst the drivers there. A second 8 car event was held at Rockingham the following year.
The car has now been driven by over sixty current and former F1 drivers including nine F1 world champions.
Over the years the car has graced many of the Formula 1 circuits including Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Abu Dhabi, Sepang, Austin and appeared at every Australian Grand Prix from 2009 to 2020. It has also been used for street runs in Budapest, Sofia, Leipzig, Miami and Chicago and London.
As well as a host of famous drivers, the car has carried a wealth of celebrity passengers. In London, Jenson Button chauffeured Naomi Campbell around the city streets and in the U.S. Mario Andretti took Paul Newman for a spin.
