Revisit past F1 greatness with this photo of former F1 driver, James Hunt - also known as 'Hunt the Shunt', with 'shunt' referring to his often-reckless exploits on the F1 tracks. He started his F1 career with Hesketh driving the Hesketh 308 car, in both World Championship and non-championship races, before joining the McLaren team at the end of 1975.
He then one his first and only World Championship title in his first-year racing with the McLaren F1 team. He remained with the team for a further 2 seasons, before moving to the Wolf team and ultimately retiring in 1979.
His impressive Formula One career involved 93 race entries, 23 podiums and 10 race victories. However, he was not only making an impression on the track; his racing career is also heavily remembered for his fierce on-track rivalry with fellow driver, Niki Lauda.
After retiring from F1 in 1979, Hunt established a career as a motor sports commentator for the BBC alongside Murray Walker on the Formula One racing programme Grand Prix. Hunt remained as a commentator for 13 years until his untimely death at the age of 45, passing away from a heart attack.
