This unique piece of memorabilia is bound to be a striking addition to any F1 collection. This helmet was designed for former British racing driver, David Coulthard, for his 1996 season and was worn by the driver when he secured his first ever points finish for the McLaren F1 Team with a 3rd place finish at the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in Germany. This was also the first rostrum position of the 1996 season for the team - making it a memorable race for both the driver and team.
This helmet, worn by Coulthard himself at this unforgettable race at the Nürburgring, was painted by Mike Fairholme - a crash helmet painter who has worked with over 60 Grand Prix drivers. The helmet showcases the striking blue, white and red design worn at the Nürburgring track as well as the sponsorship from the 1996 season. McLaren was sponsored by Marlboro and the full tobacco branding was allowed for many of the Grand Prix races, except for four - Nürburgring, Magny-Cours, Silverstone and Hockenheim. This means this helmet did not feature the sponsorship lettering and is a more unique helmet design from the season and specific to this race.
This helmet can be photo-matched with the one worn by Coulthard at the Nürburgring due to its particular curved red bar, which is unique to this helmet design. The helmet also features the Boss and Mobil 1 sponsorships from the season. The centred Kenwood lettering as well as the Jerudong Park logos either side were also used in the 1996 season. The helmet is also still complete with drinks tube and radio with microphone that can connect to both earplugs and car.
